Taalena Swarmed with Over 100 Bugs!
February 26, 2007Sunday, February 25, 2007, Tagaytay. Bugrun and breakfast at the Taalena Restaurant.
Caltex Mamplasan served as the staging area for the bugrun to Tagaytay organized by the friends from Southside VW. Initially, about 30 Volkswagens were expected to join this time. But very early on, we realized that this number is going to grow a lot more. Just there at Caltex, I already counted 50 VWs already and the day was just beginning.
The Tagaytay Bug Run was not to be a bug run alone because of generous friends. Lechon, barbeque and crispy pata, while not "traditional" breakfast items are all available for VW fans. Mechanics, courtesy of Araneta Group’s Jimmy Galvez were available to lend a helping hand for those bugs that are not as fit as some others. Nagdala na din siya ng spare parts just in case.
Again, a very successful event hosted by a group of people from the SOUTH. It doesn’t matter who you are, what group you belong to, members or not, there is only one reason behind this success….WE LOVE OUR VW’s and everyone is WELCOME !!! ……barkadahan, kwentuhan, hatawan, kainan(libreng lechon), at pasasalamat sa mga iba’t ibang tao.

The Volkswagen Club of the Philippines Goes to the 11th Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fair
February 12, 2007The VWCP had it's first bug run for 2007 yesterday, Sunday, February 11, 2007 to the Hot Air Balloon Festival, Clark Field, Pampanga. It was a ten point run, plus 3 points if you bring your VW. The National Chapter showed our support to the VWCP Pampanga chapter who displayed their cars. One of the VWs I wanted to see was the WW2 Kubelwagen owned by one of the VWCP Pampanga chapter members… not a replica, mind you, it's the real deal!
Official members of the Club were enjoined to use their VWs in order to get extra badge-points (and other benefits) on top of the equivalent points for the bugrun. Non-members were welcome to join us in this bugrun.
The bug run started at the Total Gas Station just before the entrance to the North Expressway. We left at precisely 4:30AM with around 15 Volkswagens in line. We averaged around 100KPH, maxing out at around 120KPH so that we could see the balloons being filled up before take-off. We made good time and got to Clark Airfield just before sunrise. Unfortunately, other people had the same idea and you wouldn't believe the line to the parking. It was a couple of kilometers long!
As we crawled into the parking, we could see some balloons being filled up at the distance. Jockeying into the parking spot was as usual, a nightmare, with the regular "unruly" idiots sneaking by with no respect. I don't know why Filipinos have this bad habit.
By the time we got our cars parked and had walked to the entrance, we could already see some of the balloons lifting off. The day soon turned real HOT! Emmy, Hannah, and I quickly found a spot and set up our tent. We alternately walked the fairgrounds. There were a lot of displays from the Airforce, Sky Divers and Balloon clubs. We were also treated to an aerobatic diplay, skydiver show and a helicopter "stunt" flight. All in all, we had a great time except probably for the heat.
By 10:30, everybody was beginning to get hungry, so the group decided to pack up and head to a local steak house that the officers recommended. Emmy, Hannah, Bubu and I decided to just forego lunch at Pampanga and just hurry home.

My Herbie Replica
February 10, 2007Herbie is now mine! (Thanks muchos DB!)
Here's a picture of Herbie as I got it last Saturday, Feb 3, 2007
After about 3 hours of waxing and polishing and a set of my spare whitewalls, this is the result
But the plan is to lower the stance to acceptable levels (without compromising the ride) and to get a roofrack to add vintage luggage, cooler, and a surfboard painted in Herbie colors. For this I made a drawing and called it. . . .

VW Tambay, Shell Julia Vargas, Feb 5, 2007
February 6, 2007A small group met last night at the Shell Station at Julia Vargas at around 10PM. I got there at around quarter to 9 BUT no Vdubs. I waited until 930 and finally had some siomai at Chowking before deciding to go home. Just as I was about to start Herbie, Rae in his 02 and Joey in his 03 rolled in! After a while Jaz in his Brucie, Orly in his Phurple PhaFi, Nong in his Rat, and EJ with Ashley made for a nice line up. Lastly Wed drove up in his Orange slammer.
