the Green Pinoy Volkswagen
April 25, 2008Plans are underway by the Volkswagen Club of the Philippines for the World Volkswagen Day celebration on June 22, 2008.
Let’s Make It Green!!
Some suggestions:
Maybe a Green Music Festival?
Invite local bands to participate (focus on the eco/environment?)
Entrance fee waived if you bring recyclable materials (paper, glass, aluminum, dead auto/cell batteries, dead PCs, etc)
Make "green" exhibits (composting, conservation, alternative energy, recycling, waste management, waste-to-energy, etc)
Sponsors could educate public by giving lectures/seminars/workshops
Donate proceeds for clean water, solar energy projects for the disadvantaged?
Promote the use of green bags, lowering individual carbon footprint, supporting Earth Hour, etc…
Include a short bug run to the La Mesa watershed for some tree-planting, trail-hiking, communing with nature?
Waddayasay????

VW Parade Guidelines
General
The route of this parade was finalized in consultation, coordination meetings with VWCP, Firewire, and the Quezon City Government
Groups directly involved:
VWCP Directors, Officers and expanded Execom (identified by red ribbon arm bands)
VWCP marshals (also identified with red ribbon arm bands
QC DPOS (the yellow boys) including barangay patrol vehicles
QC PNP (in PNP traffic enforcers uniform) the police patrol cars and escort motorcycles
The AAP Towing Service
The QC government fire marshal’s staff and fire control vehicles
The QC government Ambulance service
Various volunteer Communication Groups
General:
A. Orderly motoring
On the QC Public roads -Always follow the instructions of the DPOS traffic enforcers and the police traffic officers.
There will be DPOS personnel to guide you outside the city hall compound.
At the QC Hall Grounds VWCP marshals and city hall parking attendants will guide you as to parking space allocations and road to use.
Patience:
Be patient. Do not move out of formation because you feel that somebody is causing unnecessary delay. This parade is being monitored by traffic marshals and officers of the vwcp. Do not decide for yourself. Wait for signals from the designated marshals.
Parking:
There would be designated parking spaces. Follow the instructions of the VWCP traffic marshals and Parking attendants. The parking attendants and VWCP traffic marshals will implement a parking scheme that will allow for a fast declogging of the roads inside the compound and consequently free the elliptical road
Segregated parking Spaces:
1. Participating VW Parade Vehicles
2. Other VW Vehicles
3. Non VW vehicles and Guest
We have segregated the parking spaces, only to make media coverage easier. Imagine a non- VW vehicle spoiling a VW event photo opportunity because of a non-VW vehicle in view.
B. Courteous Motoring
1. Avoid heated arguments with other motorist who tries to break the parade formation. There will be enough marshals and sweepers to confront the offending motorist and remedy the situation. The Police escorts and DPOS sweepers will take care of this. For all you know, the offending motorist may not even be aware that the VW vehicles are in parade formation.
2. Remember that we are here to make friends and show the world of VW camaraderie and courtesy. A little bending over would not hurt.
C. Safe motoring
1. Obey traffic rules and regulations. Only on specific orders of a traffic enforcer, may a VW parade participant ignore the standard traffic rules.
2. Show off driving –This is not the place and time to show off.
3. Giving way. In a foreseeable situation, give way to another VW in the parade, or any vehicle for that matter to prevent an imminent accident.
Example. When A VW, or any vehicle for that matter, overtakes and might not make it safely, give way so that they have enough room to cut in front of you.
4. Right of way: do not insist on the right of way rule. You may be right, but you could have prevented an accident if you have bended over a little.
Specific Instructions
1. Parade VW Car Number Card (Castrol Card number) — Each Volkswagen Vehicle will be given a pair of cards containing a number. This cards serves as the chronological order of the parade formation.
2. Placement of cards:
Front: 1 card will be attached to the windshield, passenger side.
Rear: 1 card shall be attached to the rear glass or in case of convertibles with the top down attached to the body panel, left side. The general rule is it should be visible to the driver of the vehicle behind.
3. Order of parade – You can determine that you are in the right sequence when the VW in front of you has a lower number than your number. And the vw behind you has a higher number than your car number.
4 Overtaking – Absolutely no overtaking. unless signaled by the driver in front of you to overtake. Example: the vehicle in front of you stalls and cannot be restarted with a push
5. Speed –Maintain an average speed of 20 to 30 km/ hour. The speed maybe increased or decreased depending on the traffic conditions as monitored by the traffic marshals.
6. Distance between Vehicles
a. On a stand still: 1 car length.
b. When moving: Since this is an escorted parade, go with the parade flow. The pacing would be determined and adjusted by the escort vehicles and /or pace car
7. Hazard Lights: Switch on your hazard lights on if not working, switch on your park lights
8. Delays or gaps in the parade Do not worry of being left behind. The traffic marshals are aware that there will be breaks in the formation. Just obey the marshal’s signals to stop or proceed. This is an escorted parade.
9. Stalled Vehicles – When a VW stalls, the owner should bring the vehicle to the shoulder or outer most lane. If the stalled vehicle cannot be re-started with a push, it will be left behind. Said vehicle will then be towed back to the QC hall compound.
10. Return to formation Allow a VW parade participant who was overtaken, passed or edged out of the formation to take his original place in the parade.
11. Rejoining the parade VWs that has been restarted may still rejoin the parade provided that the tail car (last car in the parade) has not passed yet.
